Derby job market to be boosted by office development
A regeneration scheme to renovate the city of Derby will include offices and meeting room facilities. The block of offices will span six storeys and will be located on Friar Gate Square. It is hoped that the development will improve employment opportunities in the area generating 250 jobs.
Derby city council is to allocate some of the £10 million funding it has to support the scheme. The regeneration fund was created by the city council and private business funding with aim of paying for office and meeting room at the centre of derby.
The leader of the city council, Councillor Phillip Hickson commented:
“This project will deliver major regeneration benefits and provide an enormous boost for the city. The council has an on-going commitment to stimulating the economy in Derby and the purpose of the regeneration fund is to help kick-start schemes which otherwise might not start because of the economic climate.”
He went on to say:
“If we encourage developers to start work on new schemes, they will become a catalyst for others to follow and the city will benefit from the major inward investment that is generated.”
The work will be carried out in two stages. Once the first units have been fully occupied construction will start on stage two. The construction is scheduled to begin on 13th February and is due to finish this time next year.
In addition to the office space project new jobs will be created by Morrisons, the leading supermarket, which will be launching the first 10 of their Kiddicare outlets across the Midlands imminently.
